SAM SCHMIDT AND IDA CAHILL SEND HELIO THEIR SUPPORT
With the nation eagerly tuned into ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," Indy Pro Series team owner Sam Schmidt, and his paralysis foundation's President, Ida Cahill, have tuned in to cheer on IndyCar Series star Helio Castroneves and his professional dance partner, Julianne Hough.
The show pairs celebrities, athletes, and other dignitaries with professional dance partners in several weeks of dancing competitions with judges and viewers voting on their favorite pair.
In the first week of the competition, Castroneves and his rendition of the Foxtrot was given a rating of 25 points out of 30 by the show's judges -- the highest for any male contestant competing.
"I think he was fantastic last week," Schmidt said. "He'll be around for quite a few weeks! Helio has done a great job so far, and we're all rooting for him to do well throughout the competition."
Cahill felt the same about Castroneves, making her voice heard by phoning in her votes of support after his dance.
She said, "I voted for Helio six times, the limit!"
There is also a personal touch to the eagerness for Castroneves and Hough as both have been gracious to the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation and the people it benefits.
In fact, Hough took the time to meet with Mary Azzaro, a guest of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation and its "Day at the Races" program at the Chicagloand Speedway in September.
Castroneves and Hough hit the dance floor again on Monday night at 8 p.m. edt. on ABC (check local listings). Voting instructions, including ways to phone in, text in, or vote online, will be given during the telecast.
On Tuesday night, the couple of the lowest combined score from the judges and viewer votes will be cast off the show.
Schmidt, Cahill, the motorsports team, and the paralysis foundation hope it's not Castroneves!
