FONTANA, Calif., (Sept. 3, 2004) - One of the most unique surfboards - with an IRL IndyCar 0x04e5ries twist -- will be up for auction on Friday, Oct. 1, in CARA Charities' "Beach Blanket Bash" charity extravaganza presented by Firestone at California Speedway.
Specially designed by Ohana Kemp Surfboards of Southern California, the nine-foot "Hang Ten For Kids" long board features autographs from the entire IRL IndyCar Series driver lineup -- including defending IRL IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon, current IRL point leader Tony Kanaan and 2004 Indy 500 champion Buddy Rice -- and the Menards Infiniti Pro Series field. In addition, former Indy 500 winners like Rick Mears, Al Unser, Al Unser Jr. and Bobby Rahal have added their signatures to the special surfboard that was donated to CARA Charities by Ohana Kemp Surfboards owner and designer Dennis Ohana.
The one-of-a-kind surfboard will be the perfect addition to the large Toyota Hospitality Center that will be transformed into a 1960s California beach scene. This old-fashioned beach party will be complete with seashells, sand and surfboards as well as beach and surf music, a grand food spread, a silent motorsports auction and a variety of beach activities including contests and games.
The "Beach Blanket Bash," part of the Toyota Indy 400 weekend, the IRL IndyCar 0x04e5ries' 15th round of the 16-race schedule, will raise thousands of dollars for CARA Charities as well as local and national charities.
"We want to thank Dennis Ohana for his generous donation of this beautiful surfboard," said Barbara Butz, president of CARA Charities. "And we also would like to thank all of the IndyCar and Infiniti drivers who signed the board at Kentucky. And of course all of the Indy 500 Champions who put their signatures on the surfboard. It is their participation that helps CARA Charities gain the funds for the needy causes. We believe the 'Beach Blanket Bash' will be a tremendous event this year and we hope all of the IndyCar community and the Southern California racing fans can be a part of it."
A superb faire of California-style food and beverages will be part of the 6 p.m. charity spectacular that follows all of the fast Friday Indy car action at the two-mile high banked oval east of Los Angeles.
All of the proceeds from the event will go to many charities including motorsports causes.
