"A Champ Car Experience" For Racing Fans And Charity on Aug. 8
LEXINGTON, Ohio (August 1, 2003) -- Racing enthusiasts will treat their taste buds to some of the finest food ever prepared at a racing facility on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course when many of the top chefs on the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford participate in the popular "Taste of CART -- A Champ Car Experience."
The sixth edition of the CARA Charities' festival of food has become an annual affair for racing fans around North America with many of the CART drivers, team owners, engineers and mechanics also enjoying the gourmet delights at the racing teams' hospitality headquarters in the Mid-Ohio paddock area starting at 6 p.m.
When racing fans think of racetrack food, the word gourmet doesn't usually accompany their thoughts. The statement is usually followed by laughter. But in "Taste of CART," it's much different. The food is as spectacular as the competition on the track.
"The Taste of CART not only features the chefs' incredible talents but the commodity of all of the teams and fans makes for a great evening," said Mary Lou Bogner, national director of the CARA Charities. "In addition, all of the proceeds go to charity. What an outstanding way to raise money and have a wonderful night with over 300 racing friends."
Chefs from CART such as Fernandez Racing, Herdez Competition, Newman/Haas Racing, Patrick Racing, Team Rahal and American Spirit Racing serve a variety of dishes from appetizers to entries to desserts in their racing settings at the paddock area of the picturesque Mid-Ohio complex.
"I think everyone has a great time and enjoys the spectacular food at the Taste of CART," said Al Speyer, director of motorsports for Bridgestone/Firestone. "It is a chance for everyone to taste some of the finest food in all of auto racing. These chefs are very talented and the teams donate a tremendous amount of time and effort for charity. It's a great night."
Tickets for the "Taste of CART" are now on sale at $50 each and can be purchased in advance or the night of the event. For further information, contact CARA Charities at (317) 299- 2277 or e-mail at Carachar@aol.com for reservations.
The "Taste of CART" is one of several major fund-raising events held annually by CARA Charities. CARA Charities was founded in 1981 and has distributed over $3.5 million dollars to numerous racing and community organizations. CARA serves the community through charitable work and promotes the friendship of all those involved in the motor sports family.
CARA Charities, which has raised nearly $530,000 in its "Buckle Up Baby" Child Seat program, also hosts major events such as the Indy 500 Fashion Show, the Taste of CART, the Race Shop Tour, Raceway Rendezvous and Runway Madness Six.
