S.S. Minnow Joins the Queen Mary in the Long Beach Harbor
INDIANAPOLIS, IN February 26, 2007 Gilligan's Island was filmed at CBS Radford Studios in Studio City, CA. During the off-season, the lagoon was drained and used as a parking lot. On Friday, April 13, as part of the Long Beach Grand Prix weekend, CARA Charities will give you a chance to be a part of Gilligan's Island, but on a real body of water. Join them at 6:30 PM at the Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach and board Hornblower's SS Endless Dreams for CARA's fifth annual Raceway Rendezvous. Titled "Castaways of G-Forces Island," it will feature an on-board casino night with celebrity guests, prizes, auctions, entertainment and food. The decor will be rustic island and you can get photos with the "Skipper" and "Gilligan" upon boarding. On the TV show, they made over 77 items from bamboo including a go-cart and a film projector. On the cruise there will be a bamboo bowling alley and bamboo limbo contest.
"Last year, we raised over $38, 000," said Vicki Faivre, president of CARA. "This year the proceeds will go to the Painted Turtle Hole in the Wall Camp, the Long Beach Grand Prix Foundation, American Le Mans Series Grid Kids, and Buckle Up Baby. We will have live and silent auctions, casino gambling for prizes, a live steel drum band, and plenty of food and drink. Our guests will tour Long Beach harbor and see views most have never experienced before. It is a great event for the party goers as they are direct participants in the festivities and make it the unique event it is. You get to see drivers, team owners, series officials and other racers take a festive break from the demands of a racing weekend." 2006 Festivities - Courtesy of Gregg Feistman Boarding is at 6:30 PM in Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor at the foot of Pine Street, next to the Hyatt Bridge. The cruise departs at 7:30 PM and will tour the harbor for an hour. For those wishing to debark early, the Endless Dreams will return to port at 8:30 PM and than go out for another hour tour at 9:00 PM.
