NASHVILLE (December 8, 2004) -- Many children were among the nearly two million fans that attended Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford events in 2004, but Champ Car presenting sponsor Bridgestone is reaching out to those children that may not have had the ability to come to the race track this season.
Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC has announced a partnership with the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Foundation to gather toys, books and other gifts for needy yet deserving children during the holiday season. Bridgestone/Firestone will install drop-off points at designated dealer stores this holiday season, serving as a station for the public to donate unwrapped toys and gifts.
"Last year the organization was instrumental in touching the lives of 6.5 million needy children across America during the holiday season," said Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire Chairman and CEO Mark A. Emkes. "During my tenure, I would like nothing better than for our company and our partners to be well known for giving back to the communities in which we do business. It's the right thing to do and it allows us to build positive relationships at the grass roots level."
The Toys For Tots Foundation was named the Best Children's Charity by Reader's Digest in 2003, and was also included on the Gold Star List of Charities by Forbes Magazine. This year marks the first year in a three-year partnership between Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire and the Toys For Tots Foundation.
"We are truly thrilled that Bridgestone Firestone has decided to support our 2004 through 2006 Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaigns," said William J. Grein, Major, United States Marine Corps (Ret.) and Vice President for the Marketing and Development Division. "We commend them for their thoughtfulness and generosity."
