Allmendinger Lends a Hand at Victory Junction
Randleman, NC 28 July 2010-- AJ Allmendinger made several young kids' day on Tuesday as he volunteered at the Victory Junction Gang Kids Camp (www.victoryjunction.org) with members of his Richard Petty Motorsports Best Buy Racing squad.
The camp is close to the heart for members of the Richard Petty Motorsports family, as it was built in honor of Adam Petty and has enriched the lives of more than 11,000 children and families since opening in 2004.
Victory Junction serves 24 chronic medical conditions and serious illnesses such as, but not limited to, Autism, Cancer, Craniofacial Anomalies, Diabetes, Hemophilia, Sickle Cell and Spina Bifida. Located in Randleman, N.C., Victory Junction is built on 84 acres that were donated by Richard and Lynda Petty.
The visit was not AJ's first to Victory Junction, but the NASCAR racer never leaves the camp without having a deep impression made.
"It is amazing how energetic the kids are-it just blows me away," said AJ of the youngsters who get a sponsored opportunity to experience summer camp despite their condition to live and play just like children should. "It always feels good to do something like this away from the race track and I'm always humbled by the attitude of the kids, it just amazes me. It was cool to have my crew guys there with me as well because this is of course such a big part of the Petty legacy, and it was great for us to experience something like this together away from the track."
Allmendinger extended his streak of solid runs in his 100th NASCAR start last weekend, scoring 16th in the No. 43 Valvoline Ford Fusion for Richard Petty Motorsports after an early green flag pit stop for overheating slowed his day considerably. But the effort saw him move up one spot in the championship as the series prepares for a return visit to Pocono this weekend, where AJ took 10th in the June race at the Pennsylvania track.
