OFF ROAD COMMUNITY CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF CHARITY WORK

The Absa Off Road Championship community will this year celebrate its 20th year as host to a charity Christmas Day party to raise funds for Sunfield Homes and Gateway Village.

The party will be held on Sunday, November 23 at the Tarlton International Raceway, venue for the RFS Magalies 400 which will be run on Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22. The event is the final Absa Off Road Championship race of the year.

"We have had incredible support from the off road community for nearly two decades, and I am certain that will again be the case this year," said chief organiser and multiple former South African champion Buks Carolin. "I am hoping the fact that the RFS Magalies 400 ends at Tarlton the day before our function will attract additional support from off road teams.

"The Christmas Day party is being organised in conjunction with the Rotary Merlins Club and our particular focus this year will be on raising funds that will go towards building a frail care centre at Sunfield Homes."

Sunfield Homes caters for people suffering from Down Syndrome while Gateway Village for those with brain damage.

Because of prior business commitments Carolin will not be able to be present at the function. He will be represented by top competitor Henry Zermatten who will oversee what will be a bring and braai day with ample available facilities at Tarlton.

"Over the last two decades off roaders have risen to the occasion," said Carolin, "but circumstances will see to it that a number of teams or competitors will not be able to attend the Christmas party. To circumvent this problem financial donations for gifts and entertainment can be made into a bank account administered by me."

Donations marked "Kids Day" can be deposited into account BB Carolin at Standard Bank. The account number is 0000000000641030 and the branch code 006405.

"Over the years the off road community has seen to an improvement in the quality of life for people in less fortunate circumstances," Carolin said. "We currently live in difficult times but I have every confidence in the generosity of off roaders."
