Raid Adventure Team Budapest - Bamako day four report

Farewell to Europe, welcome Africa

Extremely demanding three-day marathon
Lack of sleep and small errors
Slovak pair first in provisional rankings

On Saturday January 15th, lively sometimes even crazy field of sixth Budapest - Bamako rally set off from Heroes square in Budapest, Hungary for its 8.500 kilometers long journey towards Bamako, Mali.

In racing category a Slovak pair of Juraj Ulrich and Daniela Ulrichova, driving Nissan Navara is trying to score their fourth win. Already first stage surprised everyone with its difficulty. Twenty race tasks and one bonus task were hidden on 1.094 kilometers long trip from Budapest, Hungary to Genoa, Italy. With 16 points Raid Adventure Team was on seventh position after the first day.

Following three-day marathon with cumulative length of 2.324 kilometers was even harder than the first stage. Sixty nine tasks, including three bonuses and strict time limit put the accent on the right tactics. Some competitors decided to skip few tasks and save the time but this was not the case of Slovak pair. Despite enormous effort and almost no sleep it was not in man's abilities to fulfill all the tasks and catch a ferry to Africa. After just an hour long sleep and with final 500 kilometers on European soil Raid Adventure Team embarked the last boat to Morocco in Algericas, Spain.

Fatigue and lack of sleep led to a small error when Slovak crew forgot to fill up petrol and water supplies. They became paralyzed high in the mountains. Fortunately three of their rivals lent a helping hand. Big "Thank you" goes to teams No. 1 Trans Hungaria, No. 6 Vadludak Racing Team and No. 35 Team Oljeskiftexpressen.

Transcontinental supermarathon ended in Khenifra, Morocco. After short sleep Slovak crew headed to a next destination, to Tazzarine. At this moment the crew No. 38 managed to survive five days of racing with just 8 hours of sleep. Their reward is 272 points and provisional first place.

Raid Adventure Team is active on cross country rally scene since 2000. Their long list of achievements includes three wins on Budapest - Bamako rally and two wins of Slovak championship. In 2010 they won four international titles including FIA Central European Zone T2 trophy.
