An important role for Matovu in Rwanda
Ugandan rally co-driver Moses Matovu, one of the top navigators on the African Continent, will contest the forthcoming Mountain Gorilla Rally in Rwanda alongside rising Kenyan talent Peter Horsey.
Moses has been recruited by 26 year old Horsey after a string of strong results over the past few months, including leading the Meru Rally outright before mechanical gremlins slowed the pairing. These strong results have seen Horsey receive a wild card nomination for the much vaunted Pirelli Star Driver Nomination which will see the recipient contest six rounds of the World Rally Championship in 2010!
The Mountain Gorilla Rally will see seven of the regional nominated junior drivers go head to head and will also see Horsey take on his brother Alex in a pair of identical Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9's, adding an extra dimension to the fierce battle.
I'm really looking forward to the Rwanda Rally now. It's an event I've got a lot of experience on, having contested it three times, winning once and finishing second on the other two occasions. It is an honour for Peter to ask me to sit alongside him on this important event. All of the Pirelli Star Drivers are very talented and it will be a tough rally!
The 2009 KCB Mountain Gorilla Rally is based in Kigali, the Nation's capital and features 15 high speed special stages covering a total of almost 390 kilometres. The event begins with a ceremonial start on Friday afternoon. A champagne finish will take place for the victors back in Kigali on Sunday at 2pm.
