THE 20TH EDITION OF THE ABU DHABI DESERT CHALLENGE THAT WILL OPEN THIS YEAR 'S CROSS COUNTRY RALLY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IS ABOUT TO START. UNDER THE HEAT OF THE UAE, FRANCISCO LOPEZ AND THE TEAM GIOFIL APRILIA RACING PREPARE THE FIVE STAGES ON THE HOT SAND OF LIWA 'S DESERT.
The Dakar is now a distant memory now is the time to start the World Championship and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is the first race of the season. The Team Giofil Aprilia Racing flew to the UAE on Tuesday, to get everything ready before the departure of the rally, and even did some test in the desert.
Today was the scrutineering day for Francisco Lopez. They were held at the headquarters of the rally, inside the Yas Marina. Everything went smoothly, and the Aprilia RXV 4.5, which concluded third in the last Dakar, was the most admired bike.
"I 'm cool", said Chaleco, "we are here to achieve a good result in the first leg of the season and it won 't be holidays. Not only because of the presence of riders like Coma, Casteu or Rodrigues, but specially for the local riders that are extremely fast and prepare themselves for this race all year long."
The Chilean rider must run against 70 opponents between bikes and quads during the five stages that are drawn completely within the boundaries of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, for the second year in a row.
The Desert Challenge will start tomorrow morning with a two kilometers Super Special that will be hosted in the new Forsan International Sport Resort for the first time. The results of this lap will determine the starting order of the first stage on Saturday 28th.
From here on, the sand will do her mistress for five days in the Desert of Liwa and the Moreeb area of the "Empty Quarter," the largest sand desert in the world, characterized by dunes and cords that are really difficult to overcome.
