DAVID CLARK - MEDICAL UPDATE
Adelaide V8 Supercar driver David Clark remains in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Sydney's Nepean Hospital after an accident at Bathurst's Mt Panorama yesterday.
Following yesterday's incident Clark was treated at Mount Panorama by medical staff before being airlifted to Sydney aboard the CareFlight helicopter.
The 28-year-old is currently being treated for a collapsed lung and fractures to his pelvis, right arm and knee cap. Initial tests have not discovered any further significant internal or head injuries.
Mark Porter, who was the driver of the stationary car which Clark hit during yesterday's V8 Supercar Development Series race, remains in a critical condition and continues to be treated at Sydney's Prince Alfred Hospital.
Clark was joined in Sydney last night by his wife Leah, seven-month old daughter Reese, mum Lillian and mother in-law, Kath.
His remaining two children, Kyle (7) and Ashleigh (4), remained in Adelaide with relatives.
"It has been a difficult time for the family, our friends and the motorsport fraternity," said Clark's father and Optima Sport team manager Ken Clark, who traveled directly from Bathurst to Sydney yesterday afternoon with team owner David Macdougall.
"The doctors continued to inform us of David's good progress through the night. All our strength continues to be with David and our thoughts and prayers are also with Mark (Porter) and his family.
"All of the medical staff at the circuit, in the CareFlight helicopter and at the Nepean hospital have been exceptional in their care of David. The family and team cannot thank them enough for their continued support."
Regular updates on Clark's condition will continue to be posted on his team's website www.optimasport.com.au
