OPTIMA IMPRESSIVE DURING OPENING DAY IN ADELAIDE

Local driver David Clark made an impressive start to his V8 Supercar career by steering his Optima Sport Falcon to a credible 11th position during opening practice of the 2006 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championship in Adelaide today.

Clark, who tested a V8 Supercar for the first time last week, backed his opening session up with an impressive performance in the afternoon's final practice to finish the day in the top half of the time sheet.

The 27-year-old's fastest time throughout the day was enough to ensure Clark will contest qualifying in the top 50 percent during tomorrow's qualifying session.

David Clark -- Driver #36 Optima Sport Falcon
"Although I've lived in Adelaide for over seven years I have only ever come to the Clipsal once, and that was sitting in the grandstand, so today was certainly a huge experience.

I settled in the groove well and got to know more about the characteristics of the car with every lap I completed.

I struggled a little bit with a lack of grip in the second session but I think that had more to do with the old tyres we were on, which should mean there is a lot of room for improvement.

At no stage have I pushed to the limit and look forward to picking up the pace a bit tomorrow."

David Macdougall -- Owner Optima Sport
"The team is settling in together well and we met all objectives today.

The car is straight and we're working through things in a methodical manner to ensure David gets up to speed and feels very comfortable in the car before chasing the maximum potential out of our chassis set up.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow when we'll bolt a new set of tyres on for qualifying."
