Grassroots Nationals at Queensland Raceway.

Ipswich's Queensland Raceway continues to support the grassroots network of Australian motorsport, playing host to a double-header National competition of Nissan Z Car and Lotus Car Clubs over the Easter weekend.

On Saturday, 40 of the best of the Nissan Z Car Club will vie for honours in sprints and regularity sessions during the day long racing schedule, while Sunday will see more than 50 Lotus Car Club members compete in their own National meet.

The two-pronged Australian feature provides another vote of confidence for Queensland Raceway as a top class venue and in return the home of Queensland motorsport remains faithful to those who shaped Australian motorsport.

"These events represent the grassroots of what has become a highly successful motor racing industry in Australia," Queensland Raceway General Manager, Rob Colgan said.

2003 is shaping as a huge year for the Queensland Raceway with a revamped program planned for the PROCAR series in June and the masses are sure to converge on Ipswich for the annual round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championships in July.

"But it's important not to forget those who have maintained a strong interest in the sport at an amateur level of competition," Colgan added.

"Motor racing in Queensland continues to thrive due to the growing popularity of the Indy and V8 series, but if we want that trend to continue we must maintain support for all classes of motorsport."

A major attraction for the Easter weekend double dose of top class motorsport will see two of the latest model Nissan 350Z cars showcased around the three kilometre Ipswich track on Saturday.

In other Queensland Raceway news, a number of V8 Supercar teams are busily fine-tuning their machines in the lead up to the Queensland 300 on July 20.

Already three rounds of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series have been contested and with the leader board tight at the top, round seven at Queensland Raceway promises to be a scorcher.
