CAMS congratulates Mark Webber on Formula One victory
The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) is thrilled to congratulate Mark Webber on his maiden Formula One victory at the German Grand Prix yesterday.
Starting the race from pole position, the Red Bull driver was unstoppable in his quest for victory despite incurring a drive-through penalty early in the race.
In his 130th race start since his Formula One debut in 2002, the 32 year old Aussie overcame every obstacle thrown his way to claim victory ahead of his Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari's Felipe Massa.
"This is a fantastic result and on behalf of CAMS, I congratulate Mark on a remarkable performance and his first ever Formula One victory," said CAMS CEO Graham Fountain.
"It is incredible to see him achieve success after years of hard work and dedication. He truly is an inspiration to Australia's up and coming drivers who aspire to achieve international success.
"Mark, you have done the Australian motor sport community and the nation very proud."
Webber is the first Australian to win a Formula One race since Alan Jones' victory at the Caesars Palace Grand Prix, Las Vegas in 1981.
Webber's win moves him to third place in the championship standings behind championship leader Jenson Button and Vettel.
"CAMS wishes Mark every success for the remainder of the championship and his career," said Fountain.
