TEAM AON HEADS TO THE 'HOME OF BRITISH MOTORSPORT'
Team Aon head to Silverstone in Northamptonshire this coming weekend (the 21st & 22nd August) for the seventh round of 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The self proclaimed 'Home of British Motorsport' always serves up an exciting spectacle of close racing around the high-speed 1.639 mile National Circuit.
Team Aon experienced a strong, if slightly frustrating previous round to the championship at Snetterton two weeks ago, where the series organisers opted to restrict the performance of the two Team Aon Ford Focus, mid race meeting, due solely to the additional performance the Littlehampton based squad has been able to extract from their LPG powered machines, versus their petrol powered rivals.
Despite this the team still secured three podium placed finishes during the day, including a double in race two where Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow-Cole shared the rostrum, finishing in second and third places respectively. Despite carrying the restriction imposed at Snetterton into this weekends event, both drivers are optimistic about their chances.
Tom Onslow-Cole (#21), BTCC Standings: 4th -- 113 points.
"Snetterton was a difficult weekend in terms of the championship, we had great and so failing to deliver a points finish in race three really dropped us back in the title hunt. Jason Plato's dominance didn't help either!
But onwards to Silverstone and I'm quietly confident we should be able to have a good weekend. Three high scoring points finishes are imperative for me and that should be possible, however beating the Chevrolet, will be another challenge in itself!"
Tom Chilton (#23), BTCC Standings: 7th -- 90 points.
"I'm really looking forward to Silverstone this weekend, as I think it should give us the opportunity for some more strong results. Like Snetterton two weeks ago, the layout of the Silverstone track plays to the strengths of our LPG powered, turbo-charged Ford Focus. It has two long straights where we can expect to have a slight advantage and more importantly, only two heavy braking areas, which is where everyone else has an advantage over us.
I managed to get my best points haul of the season to-date at the last event and that has moved me up two places in the driver's championship, but I will still go into the qualifying session on Saturday afternoon without having to carry any extra ballast. That's good news and I will be aiming to secure my fourth pole position of the year."

"After a bitter sweet weekend at Snetterton, where we were not fast enough to beat Jason Plato, we go to Silverstone hoping to at least fight for victory, which will be tough given the improved pace of the two Chevrolet's, but hopefully, even with our new smaller restrictors we will be able to make a race of it, unlike Snetterton where Jason just drove off into the distance in the first two races, despite his car carrying success ballast!"
