Airwaves BMW and HiQ teams championship leaders head to Oulton Park for rounds 10/11/12 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship 2010
After a month of inactivity it's time to buckle up once again. Perched on top of the HiQ Teams Championship, Airwaves BMW returns to Oulton Park for the fourth episode of an already thrilling 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship- the team hopeful they can remain in this envious position, as they have done since the very first day of the season.
During the last round at their local track Brands Hatch, Airwaves BMW star Mat Jackson systematically picked his way through the field, dazzled the packed grand stand and thanks to pure determination and an abundance of talent moved from 11th on the starting grid to 1st. The Warwickshire man was simply untouchable.
Steven Kane, who has certainly lived up to the teams high expectations showed his competitive edge and pushed his BMW to its limit. The Northern Irish driver can be proud of his fourth podium of the season and the vital championship points received for his 3rd place finish at the Kent circuit.
Thanks to the commitment and skill of both drivers, Airwaves BMW left Brands Hatch in 1st place in both the HiQ Teams and Independents Championships, while their Porsche team are also on top of their respective championship. This is an unprecedented position and makes the three rounds at Outlon Park next weekend all the more important and something to savour.
The drama, and that we can be sure of, will continue in just over a weeks time on the weekend of the 5-6th of June. With new restrictions applied to the Fords the even keel of cars and drivers should make the event a true spectacle; with hot weather and huge crowds predicted (2008 saw 35,000 fans descend) this is one day on the BTCC calendar you simply cannot afford to miss.
With Jackson currently in 5th and Kane in 3rd in the overall BTCC Driver Standings, the picturesque track is beset with hidden crests, notorious corners such as Knickerbrook and straights that encourage late braking. Mat Jackson holds the current BTCC lap record at Oulton of 1.28.106, which he will surely look to better.
At this stage of the season we can be sure that not a single driver on the BTCC grid will give an inch, so make sure you've got plenty of finger nails left, you'll need them.
ITV4's live coverage from Oulton Park is scheduled between 11.00am-6.00pm on Sunday 6th June. Driver and team details, as well as the season schedule, can be found on www.btcc.net.
