Motorbase Performance switches to Ford for 2011 BTCC campaign
Motorbase Performance will campaign Ford Focuses in the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The Kent squad will switch from the BMWs it has run for the past three seasons to field Focuses powered by Mountune- built Ford NGTC (Next Generation Touring Car) spec engines.
Team boss David Bartrum says that it was not an easy decision to move away from BMW after the team scored its first BTCC successes with the rear-wheel drive 320, but the chance to race the Focuses used by the Arena squad in the 2010 BTCC proved irresistible.
"The 320si is still a race winning car and we've been very proud of our association with BMW. I've thoroughly enjoyed the last three years but feel this is an ideal time to move on. This gives us the chance to progress as a team and be involved in the future on-going development of the Focus."
Bartrum also confirmed the new team name will be 'Airwaves Racing' with the team retaining its title sponsor from the past two seasons. However, he is not yet ready to announce his driver line-up and will confirm in due course if his team will run two or three cars in the 2011 BTCC.
