Matt Neal pushing hard in round 21 at Oulton Park

VX Racing added to their championship leads (manufacturer, driver and team) once again in round 21 of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Oulton Park, Cheshire, adding 11 more points to their standings. The draw for the race three starting grid saw Matt Neal start from third, Tom Onslow-Cole from seventh and Fabrizio Giovanardi from eighth position.

Two-time BTCC Champion Matt Neal was the highest point scorer for VX Racing, finishing in fifth place after a challenging race involving a series of spectacular on-track battles, and safety car conditions from lap two to four.

Reining driver's champion Fabrizio Giovanardi finished behind his team-mate in sixth position. Onslow-Cole was heavily involved in a battle with his rival's on the first lap, which saw him slip to the back of the field. He recovered well however, and demonstrated the Vectra VXR's speed by working back up through the field to finally finish 11th. Team Halford's Gordon Shedden won the race, with a time of 25:48.501.

Matt Neal #4

"I got a cracking start in this race, but unfortunately all the other front runners seemed to do the same! I tried so hard to catch Mat Jackson in fourth, and I was so close at times but I just couldn't make it happen. Overall it is a reasonable points finish so I am pleased, but the car felt so good I really hoped that more points were coming our way."
