Fabrizio Giovanardi celebrating his tenth podium of the 2008 season
Race one of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Oulton Park, Cheshire, saw reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi claim his tenth podium of the year after running a clean, fast race to finish third overall.
Round 19 started with a soaring track temperature of 41.7 degrees, and an eventful start saw Matt Neal fall back through the pack. Fabrizio Giovanardi overtook VX Racing team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole on lap one, and then took the opportunity to slip past Turner on lap four which put him up to third position.
Onslow-Cole remained in strong points contention for the entire race, holding onto the front running pack and making good pace in his VXR Vectra to finish fifth. Matt Neal finished in 15th position after an unfortunate race, while Jason Plato finished with a time of 22:30.779 in his diesel SEAT.

"The car was definately fast today, and I am very pleased to secure third as now I will start from row two in the next race. I will really concentrate on my start for the second race, and hope that as we are carrying less ballast than the leader, we can really make an impression on the first lap."
