Following a turbulent race one earlier, the second race of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Croft today went ahead in better conditions and VX Racing secured a strong third place with Matt Neal.

Starting from second on the grid in his Vectra VXR, Neal dropped back into third. Soon after this the VX Racing driver found an opportunity to take back the lost position from Gordon Shedden (Honda Civic). Coming into Tower Bend, Neal lined-up on the inside with Shedden sliding off into the grass due to the damp track conditions.

The reigning BTCC Champion Fabrizio Giovanardi started from fourth and after holding position for most of the race, the Italian was forced to give way to Robert Collard (BMW) to finish in fifth place.

Tom Onslow-Cole started from 19th on the grid and was fighting for positions throughout the race. By the chequered flag, the 21-year-old took home a good eleventh place.

Today's last race will start at 16:45 at the North Yorkshire circuit.

Matt Neal #4

"It was certainly a busy race, but the track conditions were much better than in the first race. It was still quite wet when we started but the racing line dried-up fairly quickly.

"After I took second place I pushed quite hard but with the front-wheel drive our tyres wore off towards the end and I was unable to attack any further."
