Magny Cours Test - January 29/30/31
Vauxhall's 2002 Challenger Looking Good
Reigning BTCC Champions, Vauxhall Motorsport completed their first test of the 2002 season yesterday, January 31, having undertaken three days of unhindered running at the impressive F1 circuit of Magny Cours in France.
Present at the test were four of the six 2002 Astra Coupé drivers with Vauxhall Motorsport's Yvan Muller and James Thompson undertaking a series of endurance and reliability tests on each of the three days. Egg Sport's Matt Neal and Paul O'Neill joined them on days two and three with the consistently dry weather conditions enabling the foursome to put more than 1000km on the new 2002 specification BTCC Vauxhall Astra Coupé.
Vauxhall Motorsport Team Manager, Ian Harrison said, "Our main aim for this first test was to establish the reliability of the 2002 Astra Coupé and in that respect I have to say it was very successful. Everything went to plan. This was also Matt and Paul's first opportunity to really settle in and I'm pleased with both of them. Matt did exactly what you'd expect him to do and Paul used the time well to play himself into the team and car. "
Frenchman, Yvan Muller was upbeat after the test saying, "That was three good days of testing and I'm pleased we had no major problems. The conditions were there to work with and we were able to put the mileage on the car."
Vauxhall Motorsport teammate, James Thompson backed this up saying, "I feel very positive about the 2002 car, it feels more refined and having completed lots of endurance work, the way is now clear to concentrate on the Astra Coupé's performance."
