Points earned are reward for tough weekend

Running their all-new suspension for the first time, Thruxton was a major learning experience for Team PETRONAS Syntium Proton. Both drivers worked hard in qualifying to find a reasonable race set-up. In race 5, Leslie made his mandatory pitstop while in 8th place and suffered a jammed wheelnut, which dropped him down the order. For race 6, the team's engineers had made more changes, which helped significantly. Both cars posted faster race laps than their best qualifying times while the race leaders were unable to match their qualifying times. Both drivers scored points finishes.

David Leslie: "Race 5 was a disappointment. The car felt good and I reckoned a top-six was possible. Scoring points in the second race was just reward for the team -- it's been a tough weekend!"

Phil Bennett: "I was just relieved to get a points-scoring finish with a reasonable best lap in the second race. All in all this was hard work at a very fast and demanding track."

Mike Carroll (Race Director): "We can't be downhearted -- the cars have been getting quicker all weekend. We've taken a lot of data about the new setup and clearly there's a lot more speed to come."

David Wong (Team Principal): "On the face of it, this wasn't one of our better showings. But to get two cars into the points on virtually untested suspension is no mean achievement. The lads deserve a pat on the back."
