Controversial French racing star Yvan Muller can be crowned Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Champion at Donington Park this weekend, 5th/6th/7th September.
After two years of finishing runner-up to his Vauxhall team-mates, Muller will at last lift the title if he leaves the Leicestershire venue with a championship lead greater than 35 points.
He currently holds a 25-point cushion over Vauxhall team-mate and defending champion James Thompson. It was at Donington last year that Thompson clinched the title after a season-long battle for honours against Muller.
Thompson's biggest chance of catching Muller is if the rival MGs, Hondas and Protons get in among them: MG won both the previous two rounds at Brands Hatch with their drivers Warren Hughes and Colin Turkington and Honda were winners at Donington last year.
In addition, Muller will start the three-day meeting at a disadvantage -- he will miss Friday's important two-hour practice sessions as part of an 11-day ban for a post-race scuffle with MG driver Anthony Reid at Brands Hatch.
Donington's BTCC action begins on Friday with two free practice sessions at 09.30-10.10 and 11.35-12.15. Saturday qualifying runs from 13.30-13.50 and will decide the starting grid order for the first of Sunday's two 25-lap races at 12.25. The second race on Sunday is scheduled to start at 16.25.
