12th Round of the British touring car championship!

The biggest story of the weekend wasn't the shunt between Plato and Thompson, or the fact that the safety car was called out twice on the race day, but `THAT HAIRCUT!' Yes, the Ice Man himself, Ivan Muller has had all his lovely flowing locks chopped off, and although he is adamant that this will not have the Samson effect on him (loosing his strength) the championship leader only qualified second for the Sprint race and third for the feature. The Vauxhall Astra's dominated both races as they have done throughout the season, with James Thompson taking the first race victory Plato coming in second and Muller a disappointing third, (it could be the haircut) A very exciting race with plenty of action around the fast Donnington circuit gave spectators a feast of battles between the front runners. The feature race had even more exciting challenges and yet another safety car call out giving the Peugeot's drivers a chance to keep the lead for the first time this season for more than one lap, this didn't last too long as the Vauxhall Astra's made their superiority felt, as Muller made more of those spectacular challenging moves on team mate Plato. Plato wasn't going to move over for anyone and firmly slammed the door shut in Mullers face. Muller loses a front spoiler after being forced onto the grass by Plato, Bennet dropped from third to 6th after nearly taking of half the drivers, Plato taking glory over his biggest rivals Thompson and Muller. What an exciting action packed race with all the thrills and spills of top class racing. Talking to the drivers, this is their response-

Phil Bennet, are you pleased with third place qualifier for the Sprint race?

PB"Not really, we expected to qualify a bit higher, we have 39 kilos less than the other Vauxhalls. We had a problem at Mondello and we didn't finish too well, I'm surprised I'm not faster."

Today, is it the car or you?

PB"It's a bit of me really, I had a lap were I was leading then I threw it all away on the Melbourne loop. I made a mistake"

He certainly did, and with head held low he scuttles off back to his trailer to give himself a good talking too! Muller was just as miserable and disappointed with his form but even with championship points won he just isn't use to coming less than first.

You were locking up quite a lot just as you were coming into the corners, why?

<B>IM "Yes, I had a few problems with the car, the excess weight is a problem, we have to make some changes to the car for the next round. I am not happy with my position but am happy with the points I have scored today."

You have had a haircut, has that affected the way you race?

IM "Do not mention the haircut, I don't like it. I wake up in the morning and when I look in the mirror I don't like what I see. I don't think it has any effect on my driving, I don't believe in all that."

I think he looks lovely either way, and with a strong position and the psychological advantage of leading the BTCC I think we will see the real Iceman Muller shine through at the next round in Knockhill, Scotland.
