Rick Pearson To Return To Clio V6 Trophy
Clio V6 ace, Rick Pearson will return to the European Trophy with Mark Fish Motorsport this season despite several competitive offers to race in the British Touring Car Championship.
“ We still have some unfinished business in Europe,” Pearson said.“ Although the BTCC’s new television deal will be a brilliant boost to the series, we’ve found it impossible to find sufficient sponsorship to race in the UK.
“ I’m delighted to be returning to the Clio V6 Trophy as it has to be one of the most competitive one-make series around at the moment. The opportunity to return in a Mark Fish-prepared car to race at some of the best Grand Prix venues in Europe was just to good to turn down.
Last season, Pearson posted two top-twenty positions despite never having raced at the majority of the circuits visited. He narrowly missed out on a spot at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix supporting round after being invited to the principality as a reserve driver but regularly took the mantle as fastest British driver in the sixty-six car field.
New for 2002, the Clio Trophy has been incorporated into the Eurosport Super Racing Weekend package ensuring live race-day coverage of each round. The awesome 3 litre machines will also return to British soil with Silverstone and Donington Park each set to host a round of the championship.
Pearson will be partnered at Mark Fish Motorsport by his former UK Clio Cup team-mate, Paul Lomax. The pair will be backed by leading Internet domain name registration and parking company, Freeparking.co.uk.“ Both Paul and I would like to thank Activeshop.com for their support over the past two seasons,” Pearson said.“ We’re delighted to reveal their sister brand, Freeparking.co.uk as our title sponsor for 2002. Further sponsorship and support will be announced as soon as possible.”
Team principal, Mark Fish said:“ Ever since I raced in Europe as a driver, it has been my aim to return as a successful team owner. Fielding a two car team will enable us to mount a serious challenge for race wins.
“ Like Rick, I see this is a fantastic opportunity to really make a mark on the series. The V6 Trophy is a fantastic challenge and I’m really looking forward to taking on some of the strongest driver and team combinations in Europe.”
