'Peugeot Lose Out to Tyres'

The Peugeot 406 Coupe Race Team experienced persistent tyre problems this weekend at rounds 3 and 4 of www.theAA.com British Touring Car Championship.

In the Sprint race earlier today, Dan Eaves and Steve Soper experienced minor problems. Undeterred, Mick Linford, Peugeot Motorsport Director said; "Dan had two tyre blow-outs and was forced to retire. Steve, due to under steer slid wide at Church onto the rough grass, this caused the throttle to jam and retirement."
Results after Sprint race:

Soper: Not classified

Eaves: Classified 16th but ended race in the pits
After a good start to the feature race Steve and Dan were showing good pace, when on lap 10 Steve experienced a tyre blow-out, the third for the team today. Mick Linford commented, "We can't afford to have another blow-out, it's not worth risking it for the driver's, spectators and cars. With Dan having already experienced problems earlier in the day, and again as Steve was pulled in, on safety grounds it made sense to bring both drivers back in."

Linford later commented, "The tyre problem kept occurring on the fastest part of the circuit. You may ask why the Vauxhall's haven't experienced the same problem, but they have the advantage of three months additional development time and their set-up obviously works the tyres in a better way than ours. That doesn't mean the fault is with the car, Thruxton has always caused tyre problems for most teams and I am amazed it still hasn't been sorted out."
Results after Feature race:
