1998 Auto Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship Rounds 23 & 24, Oulton Park, Cheshire - Sunday September 13 1998

Solid Solo Performance Nets Hoy More Points

* Two top ten finishes for Ford Mondeo Racing * Team prepares for Nigel Mansell's third Ford Mondeo Racing appearance

Will Hoy netted himself eight more points with two strong drives in the penultimate rounds of the 1998 Auto Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship, at Oulton Park.

With Nigel Mansell's Ford Mondeo deputising for Hoy's usual car - written off in an accident at Brands Hatch two weeks earlier - he scored an eighth and sixth place finish in the Sprint and Feature race respectively to add to his drivers' championship tally.

Overcoming initial balance problems, which had left the Londoner on the sixth row of both grids, in 12th place, Hoy "kept out of trouble" in both races to bring his undamaged Ford Mondeo home in the points.

"I had a great start in the first race and an OK start in the second one and then just kept my nose clean", said Hoy afterwards. "This car is Nigel's chassis, which has seen a fair bit of action, and we had some balance problems at the start of the weekend, which forced us to make big changes to the car in qualifying. Considering where we were on Friday, this is a pretty good result. If it had been wet, who knows..."

Team Principal, Dick Bennetts, was equally pleased: "Will drove two very good races and it's not often we can say the car comes back without a scratch. This was backed by a good pit stop from the team and it's a satisfying result in the circumstances."

1991 BTCC Champion Hoy ran in a sole Ford Mondeo, after a decision to hold the second remaining chassis for testing before double World Champion, Nigel Mansell's third and final 1998 BTCC appearance, at Silverstone on September 20. The prospect of the third race outing for Ford Mondeo "Red-55" has already ensured advance ticket sales for the final BTCC rounds have doubled.
