IN-TUNE RACING REVEALS 2008 LIVERY AT BTCC MEDIA DAY
Scotland's Michael Doyle, who debuts in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship this year at the wheel of a Honda Civic Type R, makes his first official appearance as a BTCC driver today during the 2008 Media Day at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
The 20-year-old, who lives in Gartocharn on the banks of Loch Lomond, had hoped to make his track debut on Rockingham's International Super Sports Circuit during this afternoon's official test session. But with his car's Honda engine undergoing a rebuild, the former ELF Renault Clio Cup racer will be forced to watch the action from the sidelines.
Although frustrating for Michael, the opportunity to simply take part in Media Day is one he didn't want to pass up and so he's delighted to be involved in the official pre-cursor to the season proper which begins at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on 29th/30th March.
Competing for family-run team In-Tune Racing during his maiden BTCC season, Michael is relishing the prospect of racing in the UK's most exciting, most prestigious and, quite simply, biggest championship in the country.
"Being involved in Media Day is fantastic and although I'm disappointed we won't be able to run the Honda today, we didn't want to miss the opportunity of coming down to Rockingham to show the livery we'll be running on the car this year", said Michael.
"We've been working hard to get the necessary sponsorship on-board to enable us to take part in the BTCC this year and we're confident everything is falling into place nicely. I can guarantee we'll be at Brands Hatch for the first three rounds and I simply can't wait.
"Racing in touring cars has been my goal since I first started karting, it's the most high profile championship in the UK and with live television coverage this year on ITV4 it's going to be absolutely massive. Roll on Brands Hatch!"
Unquestionably one of Scotland's hottest young motor racing prospects, Michael has been a front-runner in BTCC support category the ELF Renault Clio Cup for the past three years. In 2007 he achieved two race victories; the first during a round of the Italian Clio Cup at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, and the second in the UK at Snetterton, Norfolk.
So far, Michael has confirmed two sponsors for his rookie season in touring cars, In-Tune Garage Services and Andrew Watt Car Components. Team race operations will be handled by vastly experienced ex-Synchro Motorsport engineer, Andy Scott.
