Ford Motor Company Ltd has reinforced its commitment to the Auto Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship by confirming its programme will continue with the Ford Mondeo and announcing a new, two-year partnership with Prodrive. Prodrive will take over from West Surrey Racing as Ford's works race, design and development team from the start of the 1999 season. At the same time as the move to Prodrive, Ford will boost spending in the design and engineering of the 1999 racing Mondeo. Commenting on the new partnership, Ford of Britain marketing director Andrea Formica said: "Ford has an excellent pedigree in the BTCC and this new, two-year deal with Prodrive reinforces our determination to succeed with Mondeo in the championship. Mondeo has great driving dynamics and our commitment to producing a strong race car reflects our commitment to develop great road cars. "West Surrey Racing has done a terrific job in moving the programme forward in the past three years - often in challenging circumstances - and we are extremely grateful to them for their work. We expect the new partnership with Prodrive to build on the success WSR has achieved."
