MENU AND REID TEAM UP AT FORD UNTIL BTCC MILLENNIUM
Two-year deal announced with BTCC front-runners
BRENTWOOD, August 24, 1998: Ford Motor Company has teamed up two of the world's best touring car drivers, Alain Menu and Anthony Reid, to contest the 1999 Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship in its Prodrive-built Ford Mondeos.
Reid (39) and Menu (35) - currently at the top of the Drivers' Championship table, in second and third respectively - have each signed two-year contracts with Ford, which will see them competing in Ford Mondeo race cars up to the 2001 season.
This deal follows shortly after Ford's announcement of a two-year partnership with Prodrive, who will design and build the racing Ford Mondeos and underlines the company's commitment to success in the BTCC.
Swiss-born Alain Menu signs for Ford as defending BTCC Champion, with a total of 29 BTCC race wins to his credit and returns to the race team with which he made his championship debut in 1992.
"I'm delighted to join Ford and Prodrive", said Menu on signing his contract. "I believe the commitment to be successful is there and I am very optimistic the Ford Mondeo is going to win races next year."
From a BTCC debut in 1997, Scot Anthony Reid has forged an impressive record already, including more pole positions, more fastest laps and more miles led than any other BTCC driver this season.
Mr. Andrea Formica, marketing director for Ford of Britain, commented: "We feel very proud to announce two of the world's top drivers have committed to Ford for the next two years. Anthony and Alain's combination of experience and excellent BTCC records make them the perfect choice to take the Ford Mondeo race car to the front of the grid."
