The Peugeot 406 Coupe Race Team experienced difficulties today after The BTCC got off to a wet and cold start in testing at Brands Hatch.
After free practice this morning, Matt Neal was 3rd quickest with a lap speed of 52.630. Matt later experienced gearbox difficulties which left him unable to qualify for tomorrow's race. Matt will now start at the back of the Touring Car grid.
Steve Soper proved 4th fastest in free practice this morning again experiencing difficulties in qualifying. Soper recorded a lap time of 53.077 in free practice with a 50.414 lap time in qualifying. Soper qualified 5th on the grid for race day.
Dan Eaves fortunately had a good run this afternoon in qualifying, leaving him just behind team-mate Soper, 6th on the grid for tomorrow.
Unconcerned by their performance today, Mick Linford, Peugeot Motorsport Director commented:
"After free practice we discovered a minor problem with Matt's car. Unfortunately this meant we had to remove the flywheel and gearbox and time was against us to get Matt out for qualifying. Steve had a good run early on, then experienced a power steering pump problem three parts into the session. This is a good example of lack of track time and the inevitable teething problems you get with new cars. Fortunately Dan had a good run this afternoon and concentrated on learning the car."
