Evidence of Team Petronas Primax's (TPP) expanding motorsport program will again be on show this weekend at Johor Bahru's Pasir Gudang Circuit when new signing, Mashlino Bin Mohd Buang, makes his debut in the distinctive Petronas colours.

Unlike his two teammates, Fariqe and Iskandar, Mashlino arrives on the scene with an established record at the circuit. The 27 year-old first raced at JB in 1996 when he embarked on a campaign in the Silverstone Proton Series, which he won in 1998. Last year he moved into a Honda Civic and immediately demonstrated his pace with four pole positions.

"It's a dream come true," says the JB born-and-bred racer, clearly seeing this as a promotion to bigger and better things.

"Mashlino's talent could not be ignored," says TPP's principal, Mr David Wong, "he is the sort of driver we want racing with us and has a great future at Team Petronas! We are always looking for local talent and have the experience and resources to properly advance promising drivers.

"It's always been a goal of Team Petronas to bring Malaysian drivers to the international arena, and this new `incentive' should make my other local drivers (Fariqe and Iskandar) work even harder."

Team Petronas, in a joint initiative with Proton, also recently announced the commencement of its British Touring Car (BTC) campaign to begin next year. 2002 will also see the closing of the Team Petronas Syntium Opel program in South Africa as Petronas engineering personnel are moved to the new project.
