NEWS FROM THE AUTO TRADER RAC TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP, 5/3/96
ENTRY LIST ANNOUNCED No fewer than 10 manufacturers are represented on the entry list for Britain's top race series, the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship. Published today (Mar 5), the list features eight works teams -- Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Peugeot, Renault, Vauxhall and Volvo -- plus six 'semi-works' or privateer entries fielding cars from Ford, Nissan, Toyota and Vauxhall. Among the wealth of driving talent which will line up on the grid for the first round of the Auto Trader Championship at Donington Park on Easter Monday (Apr 8) will be every touring car World Champion or FIA World Cup Champion. Said TOCA Managing Director Alan Gow: "I believe that the entry for this year's Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship is the best we've yet seen. Not only do we have the only crowned touring car World Champion, Roberto Ravaglia, but also the winners of the FIA World Cup from 1993, '94 and '95, Paul Radisich and Frank Biela. And also, of course, there are five British Champions on the roster -- John Cleland, Will Hoy, Tim Harvey, Jo Winkelhock and Robb Gravett -- so the prospects couldn't be more exciting. I believe that the depth of quality of the drivers, teams and manufacturers contesting the series this year simply could not have been bettered... "The same goes for the Total Cup for privateers, which is looking very strong also -- in addition to those drivers who have already registered with us, there are known to be a further two or three yet to come but who may not be ready in time for the first race. In terms of driver quality and expertise of teams, not to mention competitiveness of machinery, the entry is the best we've had."
