Airwaves Racing heads to the ‘home of British motorsport’ in force this weekend as the penultimate round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship arrives at the world-famous Silverstone National circuit (September 28/29).

Airwaves Racing is back in action at the top of its game as the BTCC reconvenes following a two week break. Last time out proved to be a celebratory weekend for the Motorbase-run squad at a wet and wild Rockingham Speedway with Mat Jackson making a welcome return to the rostrum; securing 2nd in the opening race of the weekend before going on to add a further two 4th place finishes to the squad’s weekend points tally.

With its super-fast long straights, Silverstone is a circuit which should suit both the Mountune-powered NGTC and S2000 Fords well. All three of the Airwaves Racing drivers have tasted success here before; most notably last season where Mat Jackson piloted the newly built NGTC to a stunning maiden race victory in race 2 with team-mate Aron Smith also securing his first visit to the BTCC podium with a P3 finish in the opening race in the S2000 Focus.

The Addison Lee Motorbase squad is also hoping to bounce back from a torrid weekend at Rockingham two weeks ago. Mechanical issues and a puncture put paid to Liam Griffin’s challenge on the Jack Sears Trophy; but the Addison Lee boss is back behind the wheel of the S2000 Focus this weekend looking to add to his tally of six class wins.

With a rejuvenated three car squad following the recent addition of Tom Onslow-Cole in the #6 Focus NGTC; David Bartrum now has arguably the most exciting driver line up on the grid and the Airwaves Racing squad heads to Silverstone in strong form, looking to emulate last year’s success story.

Round 9 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship takes place at Silverstone circuit on September 28/29. Live coverage of Sunday's events will be shown on ITV4, itv.com and also in HD from 11.15am – 6pm; with itv.com featuring live streaming online of Saturday’s qualifying session between 3.40 and 4.10pm.

Airwaves Racing Team Manager Oly Collins said:
“We're really looking forward to this weekend. Silverstone is a fantastic venue as the home of British Motorsport and it was here we secured our first win for the Motorbase designed and built NGTC car a year ago.

“Mat had a great weekend last time out at Rockingham and all of our drivers are strong at Silverstone so hopefully we can use that momentum to get all four of our drivers on the podium this weekend.”

Airwaves Racing driver #6 Tom Onslow-Cole said:
“Rockingham was a difficult introduction to the car in one of the least desirable conditions you’d want really. I seem to have settled in to the team well; it’s like a family atmosphere and I feel very supported within the team.

“Silverstone has always been a good track for me in the past; I came very close to being the only person to ever score maximum points in the BTCC there a couple of years ago - it’s one that I enjoy driving and the racing is so close it always makes for an exciting race day.

“The Focus is very close to where it needs to be; but we’ve made a few tweaks to the car ahead of this weekend and I’m confident that we’ll be able to run at the front.”

Airwaves Racing driver #7 Mat Jackson said:
“Off the back of our success at Rockingham I am very much looking forward to getting back out on track at Silverstone this weekend.

“It’s a circuit where the Focus can stretch its legs, and it’s been very good to us in the past couple of years – most notably where we sealed our first win in the current NGTC Focus last year - so I am hoping of similar joy this time around.”

Airwaves Racing driver #8 Aron Smith said:
“Silverstone last year was a break through weekend for me, getting my first podium was a dream come true and certainly is a weekend that I'll never forget.

“We saw just how strong the NGTC focus was in the Mat's hand around Silverstone so the whole team is heading there full of confidence. As a track it always provides great racing so hopefully we'll put on a good show for everyone in Airwaves Racing.”

Addison Lee Motorbase driver #66 Liam Griffin said:
“Rockingham was a huge disappointment; to concede a championship in that way with three DNF’s was gutting. It’s been great fun to be part of the Jack Sears Trophy and I’m glad I’ve pushed Lea Wood as far as I could - without a doubt he’s a worthy champion and it’s just a shame I didn’t get the chance to make him earn it a little bit more!

“Hopefully we’ll have a bit more fun at Silverstone this weekend and we can add a couple more Jack Sears Trophy’s to the collection!”
