2012 Clio Cup champion Goff steps up in the New Year with Team Hard

Jack Goff has become the first driver to be confirmed at Tony Gilham’s Team Hard squad to drive one of his New Generation spec Vauxhall Insignia’s acquired from Thorney Motorsport for the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Gilham purchased the car just prior to the final meeting of the year and drove the car for the first time in Team Hard colours at Brands Hatch after previous running the car with Thorney Motorsport for two meetings. Goff has already tasted the car at Silverstone where he put in a good performance despite being hampered by heavy fog limiting running.

The 21 year-old from High Wycombe is the latest from a long list of drivers to graduate from the Clio Cup along with Aron Smith, Jeff Smith, Lea Wood, Mat Jackson, Alex MacDowall (now in WTCC) and Andrew Jordan while Dave Newsham and Tom Onslow-Cole are also like Goff former champions.

With so many ex Clio racers doing so well in the BTCC Goff hopes that he will be able to emulate many of his former rivals and said, “I’m staying realistic but two of my previous team-mates from Clio’s, Dave Newsham and Aron Smith, have both won races in the BTCC in 2012. I was a match for them in Clio’s so I’ll be looking to emulate that in 2013. It’s a dream come true and I’m massively excited about it. I’ve seen what the team is doing with these cars – it is a complete redevelopment – and I’m confident about my debut season in the BTCC.”

Team boss Gilham is also very happy to secure the youngsters services and hopes he is able to carry on where he left off in Clio’s and said, “Jack is really on a roll having just won the Clio Cup in front of the BTCC crowds and he’s just the sort of driver we want in our team as we build for the future. He is tremendously talented and, for his age, also extremely mature in his approach. He is definitely going to be a name to watch for in 2013.”
