A new challenge for the VDS Racing Team
The VDS Racing Team is getting ready for a new challenge in 2009: the Belgian racing team has been present on the circuits for almost half a century now and will again defend the Belgian colours, racing at the highest level (GT1) of the FIA-GT championship.
The VDS Racing Team will support drivers Bas Leinders and Renaud Kuppens in this international championship. The highlight of the season will of course be the Spa 24 Hours (25th-26th July), with a second Belgian round in Zolder on the 11th of October. The team and its drivers are in the process of choosing between the propositions of the different car makers active in the FIA-GT championship, in order to find a car that suits their ambitions - winning! As soon as that decision is made, it will be announced which car was chosen.
"Of course I am very proud that VDS Racing Team's colours are again at the top of one of most competitive international championships around", admits Marc van der Straten. "I am also very happy that I can allow Bas and Renaud to show their immense talents at the highest level of GT racing. I can hardly wait for the start of the season, on the 3rd of May in Silverstone. I expect to live a very emotional year."
The VDS Racing Team, an initiative of Count van der Straten, who started it at the end of 1964, has throughout its history supported Belgian and foreign drivers, with numerous starts in international events and several impressive successes as a result.
