Tough luck for the Corvette-team

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS. Notwithstanding a perfect preparation and an excellent start in the race the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa was short-lived for the SRT team. Two hours into the race a transmission component gave up the ghost and the race was over. This is the first retirement due to mechanical failure since the 24 Hours of Zolder in 2004. The team run by Patrick Selleslagh are now waiting with baited breath for their revenge during the 24 Hours of Zolder.

"I was running so well", a disappointed David Hart told us after his retirement. "The car was going well; I was running in the sub-top and holding a perfect rhythm. Maxime Soulet was standing ready to take over the relay when I suddenly heard a loud bang under my seat which put an end to our dreams. I had to park the car off the track on the straight just after Les Combes at that was it"

There was nothing the team could do but throw in the towel and symbolically close the pit door. Patrick Selleslagh: "A component in the transmission broke off and the guys from Pratt & Miller confirmed that this was a real breakage of a component. No one in the team nor the driver could have done anything about it. This is just pure tough luck. This is out first retirement through mechanical failure since Zolder 2004 and unfortunately this sort of thing is inherent of a mechanical sport. I find it especially disappointing for the drivers and all the team members, but we're not discouraged by this and we'll be back doubly motivated in Zolder."

SRT will shortly be announcing the team names for Zolder and will then be gearing themselves up for a strong autumn season for the FFSA championship in France as also the Belcar Original.
