Bobbi keeps Maserati on top
The Maserati MC12 continued to be the fastest car on the brand new Silverstone GP circuit in Pre-Qualifying.
This morning Enrique Bernoldi set the fastest time in the Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati in Free Practice and this afternoon it was the turn of the No.34 Triple H Team Hegersport Maserati of Matteo Bobbi, with a best time of 2:01.135, 0.5 seconds quicker than the Brazilian's fastest lap in the morning session.
Triple H occupied the top two spots in the pecking order when Alex Margaritis, in No.33 Triple H Team Hegersport, was second fastest with a best time of 2:01.502.
Third fastest was the No.24 Reiter Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-SV driven by Peter Kox, with a best time of 2:01 571.
Qualifying for the FIA GT1 World Championship will take place at 10:45 tomorrow morning with the results determining the grid for the Qualifying Race at 17:15 on Saturday evening.
Pre-Qualifying: What the drivers say ...
Peter Kox, Reiter Lamborghini No.24
Pre-qualifying was not so bad but we struggled with a flat spot in the tyres so we tried a new set for the second run. We are reasonably satisfied with the car's performance. The new circuit is good but to be honest I need some more time to learn it and like it. Silverstone has always been very good to me over the years so I hope for a good result this weekend. I hope for a podium or more.
Bobbi, Triple H Maserati No.34
We had a very good pre-qualifying session today and we tried some different set-ups compared to this morning's session which helped improve our performance. The weather is a very important factor when racing at Silverstone because it is difficult to predict.
I like the new circuit, it feels good to drive but it is a bit slower than the old circuit. However, there are now some good overtaking places which will make for some good racing. Overall, it will be tough to say where we will finish tomorrow's Qualifying Race especially as there is a chance of rain.
Romain Grosjean, Matech Ford GT No.5
We had a very difficult session today but we tested a few different set-up options in preparation for tomorrow's race. We will have to sit down with the engineers to find out how we solve the problems we have with the car. Overall, we struggled a little bit today but we still look forward to doing well tomorrow. My view is that the new sprint races are fast so we have to be fast as well.
I like the new circuit and it has some very nice bits in it. I miss the old circuit a bit but I hope we find some new overtaking opportunities on the new layout. I will try to do my best and I will be happy if we score points but I hope for a podium or even a race win like we had in Abu Dhabi.
Michael Bartels, Vitaphone Maserati No.1
We did some good set-up work for the Qualifying Race and we are happy with preparations. However, it will be a tough weekend I'm sure but we will work hard for a good result.
The new circuit is interesting. We are still discovering the new layout and racing line but overall it is different and challenging. There are more overtaking opportunities than the old circuit so this is always a good thing for the spectators. The aim is simple - to win the race.
Christopher Haase, Reiter Lamborghini No.24
We did a good few laps where we changed the set-up a couple of times but we still have more work to do to get the car in good shape for tomorrow's Qualifying Race.
The new circuit is not bad. The tarmac is very slippery at this stage and it is a little bit bumpy in places but I like it and I hope to learn it a bit more tomorrow. I hope we can get some points and perhaps go for the pole position and win tomorrow.
