Just four days before the start of the FIA GT championship's opening round Jos Menten concluded an agreement with the Luxembourg DKR Engineering team. The 28 year young driver based in Haelen will be at the wheel of the powerful Corvette C6.R in the United Kingdom. This is the same car, and in fact the same chassis with which the Dutchman started off his international career back in 2006. Another constant in this story is Menten's team-mate. The Finnish driver Markus Palttala also competed in this very same Corvette C6.R in 2006, at that time still active under the Belgian PSI Experience banner. These last few years the paths of Markus Palttala and Jos Menten have regularly crossed and not without success! In 2006 the duo clinched a third place in the 1000 km of Spa, and two years later they finished third in the high spot of the Belgian GT Championship; namely the Menzo 24 Hours of Zolder.
"I'm truly pleased to be back on the track again", Jos Menten starts off his story. "For the third time in a row I'm at the start of the season opener of the FIA GT championship, but up until now I have never been able to score at Silverstone. Third time lucky, and with Markus Palttala joining me a top result should be feasible. It has been three years since Markus was at the wheel of a GT1 power beast, but I'm convinced that we'll very quickly find the right rhythm. The Corvette C6.R is the perfect weapon to do battle with and on top of that DKR Engineering has sufficient experience to bring this to a successful conclusion. I have some great memories of the Corvette C6.R, amongst which my FIA GT-pole in Paul Ricard culminating in a second place at the finish. I would love to carry on in this same light!", a combative Jos Menten commented.
The FIA GT championship starts on 2nd and 3rd May at Silverstone, as a part of the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, where 13 GT1 and 12 GT2 cars will come up against each other to do battle!
