Michael Mallock will line-up alongside Chris Goodwin in the No. 8 Saleen at Zhuhai, China on 14th November for the eleventh and final round of the 2004 FIA GT Championship. An impressive performance at this years Spa 24 Hours led to the teams decision to partner Michael with Chris for the final event. The No. 7 Saleen will feature the regular line-up of Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos.
Round 7 of the championship at Spa was also Michael's debut in the RML Saleen and a gradual improvement in lap times during the practice and qualifying sessions soon transformed into an outstanding race start where he gained six places on the first lap. Consistently climbing through the field during his stint Michael had climbed to an impressive 5th position at his first pit stop from 18th position on the grid. His debut was curtailed however when an oil pump problem forced the team to retire the car four hours into the race.
Michael's other recent experience of GT racing includes podiums in last year's (2003) British GT Championship and FIA Sportscar entries in 2001/2. Back in 2000, he became the third generation Mallock to win a championship driving in a car bearing the family name when he secured the National SuperSports Championship in the RML Mallock P20. At just 17 he was by far the youngest to have achieved this, his father Ray, and uncle, Richard, both winning the same championship in Mallock cars when they were aged 21.
Michael Mallock commented "I am very happy to be back in the car and am grateful to the team for giving me this opportunity. I enjoyed driving the Saleen at Spa and am looking forward to partnering Chris and to us achieving a good result for the team." Phil Barker, Team Manager commented "Michael drove really well at Spa for his first outing in the car and he works well with the team. His performance ensured we wanted to see him back in the Saleen and we feel alongside Chris they will make a strong pairing for the final race".
