MARC VDS Racing Team in Portimao:
Progress and bad luck for Leinders-Kuppens

During the sixth round of the FIA GT championship in the Portuguese Algarve Bas Leinders en Renaud Kuppens continued the development of their Ford GT of Marc VDS Racing and they made good progress in the race before transmission problems spelled the end. They claimed the points for 7th however and were first of the 2010 cars.

Bas Leinders, who started from 6th, immediately noticed that the deficit in topspeed was less penalising during the race than in qualifying. "We were some three seconds behind in qualifying, but during the race that was one second less", Leinders said. "Due to a long first stint I could even climb to 3rd overall! Not everybody was happy with that and the Brasilian Streit even pushed me off the track. Fortunately I did not touch anything and did not lose too much time."

Renaud Kuppens was lying in 6th when he left the pitlane, but unfortunately for him he had to spend a large part of his stint behind the safety car. Bas Leinders' final stint came to a halt six laps before the end, when the transmission broke. "We still scored two points for 7th place though, and got the cups for the best of the 2010 cars. The most important thing is that we made good progress. We have a new engineer, former GP2-man Eduardo Gimenez, and his presence is already felt within the team. I am sure that we can make some more progress during the remaining rounds of the season."

Next stop: 3rd and 4th October in Paul Ricard (France).
