5th Round of the FIA GT Championship at the Paul Ricard HTTT
A successful Premiere on the South of France High Tech Test Track
The Paul Ricard HTTT welcomed the FIA GT championship competitors on August 19th & 20th for the fifth round of the 2006 season. A real Premiere for the High Tech Test Track renovated and modernised by Philippe Gurdjian in 2002.
President & CEO of the Paul Ricard HTTT, Philippe Gurdjian is happy to see the success of the first official FIA race taking place this weekend on the South of France circuit: "The HTTT was renovated in 2002 to become the first and only test and communication track, with a totally new safety concept, which has now proven to be truly successful, other recent tracks having copied the concept. In the last 5 years, we have welcomed many different motor sport disciplines for test sessions, car and bike manufacturers for product launches, but also clubs and event organisations for meetings."
"Today, and for the first time since the track was renovated, we had the chance to see an official FIA race of the FIA GT Championship. After having been successful with the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli on July 28th & 29th, and with the FIA GT Championship competitors, as well as the Touring Cup and Group C GTC Racing teams, we have now demonstrated to those who still doubted, that the new safety concept, more especially the abrasives asphalt run-offs, are absolutely adapted to racing."
"Teams and drivers have shown to be truly satisfied with their first racing experience on our track, and the TV coverage has shown again to TV spectators how beautiful the Pop Art Paul Ricard HTTT is."
Spectators and team guests have also widely appreciated their first race experience at the track. The special VIP access to FIA GT, Touring Cup and Group C GTC Racing paddocks, the special access to the pit lane and starting grid, definitely gave the spectators an unforgettable treat to discover an international FIA race. There was an extremely positive emotion to be felt all over the place...
Stephane Ratel, Chairman of SRO and organisator of the FIA GT Championship was also more than pleased at the end of the weekend: "I am very happy of the global weekend at the Paul Ricard HTTT. Drivers really had fun on one of the most beautiful track in the world and appreciated the exceptional infrastructures of the place. The TV production did a fantastic job and the show was really stunning. I am quite happy to have been the first one to organise an FIA race at the Paul Ricard HTTT, and the results of this week-end will give us the opportunity to think of other events in the future."
