Oschersleben, 18th September 2004 - The first qualifying session today showed a marked improvement for the Lamborghinis. Piccini who could only drive in the last 10 minutes of the session after a driveshaft broke did a very good first sector in his final lap but a spin in the last corner took off any chance to get in the top 10. The 2 DAMS cars came in 15th and 17th, which does not reflect the real level of performance of the car but the team is still facing little problems which cost time.
In the second session, neither car could improve their position as the track was much slower. Piccini set the 4th quickest time of the session and showed what level the team could expect from the car.
Gabbiani and Ortiz improved their lap times all day (10th quickest in the 2nd qualifying) with consistent stints and also worked on the improvement of the driving comfort of the car.
This consistency bodes well for the race tomorrow. If we keep making this progress, improved positions should come sooner rather than later.
