The Nogaro race at the Paul Armagnac circuit in the Gers region of France, on 29 & 30 September 2007 will be the ninth (and penultimate) round of the FIA GT 2007 season. Nogaro is scheduled one week only after the dramatic Brno race that saw an outstanding performance from the Playteam Scuderia SaraFree drivers. With two cars at the finish after such a long race, tires were the key to the race on a difficult and technical track.
The Brno result reinvigorated the championship, with Bertolini/Piccini now joint-leaders in the championship with 47 points. It looks set to be a thrilling end to the year, with the top nine drivers in the GT1 classification separated by just seven points. The Nogaro circuit is uncharted territory for Scuderia Playteam Sarafree as none of the team's drivers has ever driven on this track.
Andrea Piccini said "I do not know Nogaro yet, but it looks like its tight and technical specifications will suit our cars. We should adapt well.", while Andrea Bertolini added "We are now joint-leaders in the championship with 47 points. It is great to see five cars so close in the championship because even if it may be a disadvantage not to know the track, I will learn it quickly and it will be easier to drive here with the 25kg performance ballast that the GT Series gave to all Maserati MC12 cars.."
Giambattista Giannoccaro comments: "It feels just perfect now that we are in the lead of the championship again. It will be important for the championship to do a team race at Nogaro and score a strong team result again. We really need the points that we lost in Zhuhai at the first race of the season when unfortunately neither car finished." while Alessandro Pier Guidi said "the results from Brno, where I was very fast, show that the Maserati MC12 has progressed a lot during the year. We should be in good shape for a good result on this new track."
