HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Oct. 9, 1998) - While fabulous German cars take to the track in the Oct. 16-18 FIA Grand Touring Championship Presented by Mercedes-Benz, German bands, food and beer will be spotlighted in the "Race-Toberfest" at the Miami Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.

Both factory and privateer teams from Mercedes-Benz and Porsche will be battling for supremacy in the 500-kilometer race, which is the ninth of 10 races counting towards the world championship. Mercedes-Benz drivers Bernd Schneider and Mark Webber currently hold a three-point lead over teammates Klaus Ludwig and Ricardo Zonta.

The Race-Toberfest will held Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Racing Village behind the main grandstand. Festivities include German bands, food and German beer. Family activities will include a climbing wall, a display from the Fun Center, and booths from many of the regional attractions. Saturday's on-track schedule includes a pair of qualifying sessions to set the starting lineup for Sunday's main event, plus a three-hour Motorola Cup race and 40-minute Barber Dodge Pro Series round.

General admission ticket holders will be able to see all of the action on the challenging 2.21-mile road circuit from the main grandstand, which is unreserved for the weekend. With the additional purchase of a paddock pass, guests can see the cars close up and meet the drivers.
