Bobbi Keeps The Second Place in The Classification
Imola's result will be long remembered by BMS Scuderia Italia because the team from Brescia,Italy has just secured the GT Teams Title with third rounds still left to go.
Matteo Bobbi contributed to this happy ending in a very decisive fashion. The driver from Milan was 6th when he cut the finish line. But the two debuting Maseratis in front of him don't get points due to the regulations and so Matteo conquered 5 points which add up to 53.5 in all.
His team-mates Gollin& Cappellari are in the lead by 16.5 considerable points but there are still 3 more races left. After a good start, Matteo overtook Lechner's Saleen during the 7th lap and conquered the third place. A duel then began with his team-mate and adversary Gollin. During the 22nd lap, while Matteo was trying to overtake him, the two cars made contact and Bobbi was given a drive through penalty.
Matteo handed the car over to his team-mate Gardel in second place at the 27th lap.Unfortunately while trying to overtake the Ferrari car #2 driven by Cappellari, Gardel damaged the right back wheel which a few laps later exploded and damaged the back part of the car.
Too much time wasted at the pit box didn't allow Matteo to recuperate for lost time during the third hour of the race.
"At this moment I have a lot of mixed feeling. I'm happy for Scuderia Italia: in Imola in fact we are celebrating our victory as a team. Our team deserves this success for all of it hard work and skill that has always distinguished it from the others. But if I think of my result, I can't help but be a little disappointed. Gabriele's pit stop to replace a tyre and to repair the damages on the car's body work made us lose too much time and so we couldn't fight against the leaders.
As for my accident with Gollin, everything is ok now. We just had a misunderstanding which was cleared up immediately in the pit box and so our great relationship remains the same.
I do have to say that although it was really hot, I didn't suffer too much because of it when I was behind the wheel. This is thanks to a good physical preparation that allows me to tackle every race in tip top shape."
