BILL TALBERT TO WAVE THE GREEN FLAG FOR MIAMI SPORTS CAR EXTRAVAGANZA
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Sept. 21) – William D. Talbert III, President and CEO of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, will be the honorary starter for this weekend’s (Sept. 24-26) Sports Car Extravaganza at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Talbert will wave the green flag for the FIA GT Championship event at 1 p.m. Sunday, getting the field of Europe and America’s top sports cars underway for 500-kilometers of action.
Talbert has distinguished himself as an industry leader during his nine years at the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition to helping reorganize the bureau and secure funding to increase its budget, he helped in preparing two successful Super Bowl bids. Talbert, 54, has been the bureau’s President since March, 1999.
The weekend features the first American visit of the FIA GT Championship in 1999 on circuit’s 2.21-mile road course, with top American GT teams invited to challenge the international regulars. Other Sunday races include the Barber Dodge Pro Series, Porsche Owners Club, and Pro Spec Racer.
Prices start at $5 for spectators to view action on the entire 2.21-mile circuit from the Speedway’s elevated grandstands, with kids 12 and under admitted free. Action begins at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, with a full day of practice for all four race groups. Spectators are admitted to the grandstands for $5, with children under 12 and under free.
Saturday program includes a full day of practice and qualifying, starting at 8:30 a.m. The price for an unreserved grandstand ticket is $10.
Sunday’s first race takes the green flag at 9 a.m., with the FIA GT Championship, a 500-kilometer race, set to start at 1 p.m. Grandstand seats to view the four races are $15.
Weekend Club Seats for the Sports Car Extravaganza are on sale for $60. Weekend tickets, including Paddock, Garage and unreserved grandstands, are on sale for $40. Children 12 and under are admitted to the garage and paddock for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
