Good start for the new engine in the Gillet Vertigo

Monza Belgian racing was present during the official FIA GT tests in Monza last Thursday and Friday. It was the very first outing for the car with the new Maserati V84,2L engine.

Tony Gillet: " We were at the end of the development with our Alfa Romeo engine and we had some reliability problems last year. On top of that we were missing some power compared to our direct opponents (the Mosler MT 900). So we decided to use a Maserati engine (to stay in the same big family) in a Group N configuration."

The test went really well for Belgian Racing. Only a modification of the water radiator is needed to be ready for the first race in Silverstone.

Bas Leinders: "I am very satisfied with the new power unit, we have the same amount of horsepower as before but we have more torque then previous. That was exactly what we were lacking last year in order to accelerate properly out of the corners.

The opposition will be fierce this year in the G2 category with at least two Mosler's from the Charouz Racing Team. Renaud Kuppens and Bas Leinders will have their work cut out for them.
