The German Team ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport on leading position at the driver as well as the team ranking of the GT1 World – Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock take the lead after podium placings at the home race on the Nürburgring
Friedersdorf/Nürburgring (rol/ot) A successful home race on the Nürburgring: The German Team ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport from Friedersdorf not even claimed the lead at the team ranking, but also at the drivers ranking at the second to last season event of the FIA GT1 World Championship with the races 15 and 16 last weekend (22 nd/23rd of September) on the traditional track in the Eifel.
Marc Basseng (Neusalza-Spremberg) and Markus Winkelhock (Berglen-Steinach) in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 with starting number 38 with a second position on Sunday at the Championship Race and a third place on Saturday at the Qualifying Race, took the lead at the drivers ranking with one point ahead from the BMW duo Michael Bartels (Germany) and Yelmer Buurman (Netherlands).
There is just one week to go, when the big showdown will take place next weekend (29th/30th of September) with the championship finale on the race track in the Donington Park (England).
Nicky Pastorelli (Italy/Netherlands) and Thomas Jäger (Munich) in the Münnich-Mercedes with starting number 37 got some points in both races on the Nürburgring as well.
They finished sixth on Saturday and eighth on Sunday, after they had to drive into the pit because of a flat tire of a slight touch in the first lap already.
At the moment, the racing stable from Saxony leads the team ranking with 38 points ahead the BMW-Team Vita4one Racing. „It has been tough work to keep the competitors behind us“, Marc Basseng said, who is the team manager of ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport same time.
„This time we had to get more concentrated on our defence than to attack and only look forward.” Markus Winkelhock, his driver colleague in the #38, added: „I am very happy about our result. We didn’t expect it before.
This has been a tough race and I had some trouble to warm up the tires and to keep my position after the pit stop in the Championship Race.”
On Sunday, Basseng came into the pit for the driver change on position three and Winkelhock came on track on position two, which he fought for and kept until the finish line. Bartels/Buurman finished fourth.
So Basseng/Winkelhock, who already won the 24 hour race on their home track, the Nürburgring this year, are now one point ahead their competitors in the ranking.
„We worked hard for this position and we hope to be able to defend it next weekend. Markus did a great job as well as the whole team this weekend“, Marc Basseng said.
Together with Winkelhock, he made his way up to position three starting from eight in run 15 of the GT1 World on Saturday – even with problems on his exhaust after a collision with another car. The exhaust burned the underbody so it was getting quite hot in the Cockpit.
Winners of the races on the Nürburgring have been Peter Kox/Stefan Rosina (Netherlands/Slovakia) in the Reiter-Lamborghini Gallardo on Saturday and Toni Vilander/Filip Salaquarda (Finland/Czech Republic) in the Ferrari 458 Italia on Sunday.
