STORMY SPA GT3 RACE 1 FOR POUCHELON CARS

CAR 29 - ANTHONY REID/GILLES DUQUEINE

With rain falling and thunderstorms rolling around the fantastic Spa circuit, Gilles Duqueine took the front row start won by Anthony Reid earlier today. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, beating pole- sitter Patrick Bornhauser into La Source as the lights went green. Battle commenced between the Blue and Red Vipers and Duqueine led his rival for 3 laps before a slip let Bornhauser by. Gilles pegged the gap to 3.5s and with 12 minutes gone, the race looked useful with Reid due to get into the car a lap later. On lap 7, at the last part of Blanchimont, Gilles put a wheel on the white line and lost the tail of the Viper. It was a big impact and the car was heavily damaged, "It just turned left and that was it" Gilles said later. In truth, it was seeing his GT3 title aspirations slipping away that really hurt him. It was one very direct way of testing his own product for the man whose carbon composites company manufactures the HANS device.

Anthony Reid was sorry not to get a run but was more concerned about Gilles, the two men having built a firm friendship based on mutual respect this year.

CAR 30 - BENOIT ROUSSELOT/GAEL LESSOUDIER

Continuing problems with the underside and diffuser plus a recurrence of gearbox problems, along with the workload on the Pouchelon technical team kept Car 30 in the garage, the first time this has happened to the team this year.

CAR 31 - STEPHANE LACROIX/MAXIME DUBRULLE

A further electrical problem, possibly made worse by water ingress brought this car back in after just 2 laps after a promising start by Stephane Lacroix.

A mountain of repair work now faces the team tonight with heavy accident damage on top of some tricky intermittent electrical gremlins to find. It has been a character building week for the young French team but then, it's hard getting to the top.
